Personal Narrative

The Best Vacation Ever

The sun in my face, the ocean at my feet, and my family right by my side. These are the qualities of the best vacation of my life. It all started when our family went through a rough time. First, we had to put down our dog that has been in our life forever. After that I got into a little trouble with the courts because of drinking, and then two of our close friends passed away. A vacation with the family was the perfect cure for a miserable month.

We traveled in a car for about 3 days which was my least favorite part of our trip. My sister and I spent most of our time watching DVD’s on a portable DVD player and sleeping. I hated watching my dad drive because the roads were ridiculous compared to the little roads in Iron Mountain. There were 4 lanes of highway and the speed limit was 80 miles an hour. If it was not fast paced, all you could see was trees, trees and more trees. The ride was also very boring, but once we got there it was totally worth it! When we got into Virginia my anticipation sky rocketed. It took a little while to get to the actual beach and it was really late by the time we got there. I will never forget the view of the ocean at night, it is probably one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. You know when you see the ocean on TV or something and it does not look like much? Well in real life it is the most amazing vision I have ever seen. In our hotel, which was gorgeous, Nicole and I got to reside in our own rooms, separate from our parents. We were living the life in Virginia Beach!

Everything about this place was very relaxing. During the days we would lay on the beach and body board, which is the best activity ever. We also found a gigantic, human sized hole that Nicole and I could stand straight up in. After lying on the beach for hours on end, we would always end the day by going somewhere to eat. We found our favorite place to eat, and that was Planet Pizza. I am not a huge fan of pizza, but it had every kind of pizza you could ever imagine. After pigging out we all decided to go to the mall. The only problem with that was where to find it? We looked everywhere for this huge mall that we had heard so much about. After looking for an hour, we figured we should ask for some directions.

“Where is the mall from here?”

“Uhh…..Right there?” replied the store clerk,

Right in front of us was the biggest mall I ever seen, and we probably passed by it 100 times. One of the best parts of our trip was money was not a problem. My parents had saved up for this trip for a long time, and for once in my life I could say that I got whatever I wanted. After shopping our butts off, it was time to go back to the hotel and relax. This was Nicole and I’s first vacation as adults, so my dad thought that it was okay for a beer or two or three. J

Waking up to the Virginia sun was the perfect start to every morning.  After another long and peaceful day on the beach, my family and I chose to go to Busch Gardens. I have never seen so many rides in my life. We got onto every ride we wanted to go on, except one. This roller coaster was called The Superman. On this ride you lie on your stomach and fly through swirls, twirls, and loops.  My dad and I were the only ones who were not afraid of this challenge. Until the ride was shut down for a little bit, now I have seen Final Destination 3 and I was not about to get on a ride that was shut down for maintenance. Final Destination 3 is a movie all about death and how death has a plan for us. One of the scenes in the movie show eight people on a rollercoaster and all of them die in horrendous ways.

After a long two weeks it was time to go home. It was heartbreaking to say goodbye to the ocean waves, the dolphin that we had seen, the jets and helicopters that flew over us every day (because there was an Air Force base right by us),  our charming hotel, and the calm atmosphere of Virginia Beach life. This vacation was the perfect start to my summer and I will never forget it.
